I just finished Rebecca Solnit's Orwell's Roses and I cannot think of a more timely book. The author of 1984 and other books, George Orwell, was a rather unsociable person, but indomitable anti-fascist. Solnick researched and found the home where he carefully bred and maintained varieties of roses, leading to Solnik's expose of the rose and flower industry in Columbia. Her work on both inspired me tremendously, especially as we look at democracy challenged in the U.S. You Tube has some wonderful Orwell stories and films, it you wish to continue this journey!
